The Cheetah 2026 is a reissue and revised version of the TAMIYA kit from 1978 (original item number 58007). The Lamborghini Cheetah prototype was a military vehicle first unveiled at the 1977 Geneva Motor Show. The Cheetah project, which originally arose from a collaboration with the American company MTI (Mobility Technology International), aimed to develop an off-road military vehicle for the US market. The prototype was initially assembled in the USA and later completed at the Lamborghini factories in Italy. About the chassis: Based on the same chassis as TAMIYA item 58004 (1/12 XR311 Combat Support Vehicle), but with a wheelbase shortened by 10 mm. The 2WD chassis features a lightweight, torsionally rigid U-shaped duralumin base plate and utilises a battery pack mounted longitudinally in the centre, as well as a rear-mounted motor. The receiver and speed controller are mounted on duralumin plates at the rear to ensure optimum balance on both sides. The enclosed gearbox prevents dust and small stones from entering the model. The independent suspension on all four wheels (double wishbone) utilises four adjustable, flat-lying metal longitudinal torsion bar springs. Revised semi-pneumatic tyres with a flat chevron tread pattern are combined with robust, three-piece rims.
