The Hawker Hurricane was the most widely used fighter aircraft of the British Royal Air Force at the beginning of the Second World War. It made its decisive contribution in the victory of the R.A.F. during the Battle of Britain, but gradually ceded its role as a fighter to the much more modern Spitfire during the course of the war. The Hurricane, however, has successively changed its mission with new designs and very specific equipment. In fact, the Hurricane Mk. IIC had a significant armament of four 20-mm Hispano-Suiza machine guns mounted in the wings with nearly 400 rounds. Equipping the Hurricane with the 20-mm guns instead of the usual 7.7-mm machine guns made it extremely effective in ground combat and air support. In addition, the Hurricane Mk. IIC was effectively used as a night fighter.
